What is the Dividend Yield Ratio?
The dividend yield ratio is a measure of what percent of the stock price is returned to investors (or shareholders) in the form of a dividend. A dividend is a payment that is made from a company to its shareholders. Investors look at this ratio to determine if the percentage, which is also considered a return on investment, meets their criteria. They may also use this as a comparative tool to evaluate dividend returns from other companies to help make an investment decision, or to see if a company is increasing/decreasing their dividends over time. While I'm not an investment advisor, it is important to consider all the facts when evaluating dividends. In particular, some companies may increase dividends to be more appealing to investors and this could be a "red-flag," so proceed with caution if there is a significant increase.
