Midpoint Formula
The formula to find the midpoint between two points on a plane is expressed as:
Midpoint =
(x1 + x2)/2 , (y1 + y2)/2
Midpoint Sample Problem
Scot has two points on a plane and he would like to know the midpoint. His points are (5,8) and (2,4). What is the midpoint?
The midpoint is: (3.5,6)
To solve this problem, the equation would look like the following:
Midpoint =
(5 + 2)/2 , (8 + 4)/2
For the first set of variables, x;
(5 + 2) / 2 = 3.5
For the second set of variables, y;
(8 + 4) / 2 = 6
(5 + 2)/2 , (8 + 4)/2
For the first set of variables, x;
(5 + 2) / 2 = 3.5
For the second set of variables, y;
(8 + 4) / 2 = 6
This means that your midpoint is located at x point 3.5 and y point 6, which should be between the initial 2 points you started with.
